Briton’s Protection - 50 Great Bridgewater Street, Manchester, M1 5LE map
- With a choice of over 150 whiskies and bourbons, cask ales and fine wines it’s hard to find many better pubs in the whole of the Greater Manchester region. As well as the many regulars you’ll also bump in to musicians and performers from the Bridgewater Hall which is based on the opposite side of the road. From the outside it looks like a small uninviting pub but inside it’s a warm, friendly, tardis like boozer with rooms going off in all directions. One of the upstairs rooms is sometimes used as a live music and poetry venue, and there’s even a secret beer garden at the back.

Simply brilliant. Nothing to look at on the outside but a boozer’s heaven inside. Great pints, superb whisky selection and surprising bigger than first appears. If you want to get away from the crowds and enjoy a nice pint, this is the pub for you. It’s in my top 5 places to drink in Manchester. p.s. enjoy the hot nuts on offer!
Couldn’t agree more. A fabulous pub. One of the top three I’ve mentioned on my blog
Great pub, however, the girl behind the bar handed me my pint with her fingers spread around the top of the glass, which put me off drinking it, the same girl was also trying to use big words and a posh south Manchester accent (badly) interjected with fein this & fein that, will try elswhere in future, was a real put off, I like a clean pint and I dont want to hear that sort of stuff
