  • A relatively quiet traditional pub, the king is an ideal place to enjoy a pint whilst watching the football or playing a game of pool.  There are some good cask ales on offer and the bar staff are very friendly. this is a regular’s place and the best time to catch up with everyone is on the weekly karaoke night.

Kro, Piccadilly December 14, 2006

Kro, PiccadillyKro, Piccadilly   1Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, M1 1RG map

  • The fifth member of the kro family, kro piccadilly is perhaps their most ambitious bar yet.  This very large bar sits dominantly on the corner of piccadilly gardens in the controversial  one piccadilly building which replaced the rose gardens made famous by the ls lowry painting.  Thankfully it was Kro, a Danish Mancunian institution, who opted for the location rather than some faceless anytown chain bar.  It’s also helped change the atmosphere of the area, bringing in the more trendy types to what was traditionally a townie part of town, where many ‘undesirables’ once hung out.  Kro Piccadilly offers a great choice in import draught and bottled beers, wine and food, with many Danish specialities on offer.
  • continental beers
  • food (danish, british) from 07:30 – 21:30

The Knott bar December 9, 2006

The Knott BarrThe Knott Bar  374 Deansgate, Manchester, M3 4LY map

  • On the edge of Castlefield and Deansgate Locks, this venue always struggled until Rochdale Road brewers, Marble, took over and made it one of the most popular bars in town. Previously known as Smart Bar and Nowhere Bar amongst many others, it’s now probably one of the most relaxed pubs in Manchester, a firm favourite with the manchesterbars.com team. Why? because it is great! Firstly the venue itself is unassuming and relaxed, even offering a roof top terrace in the summer. Next up we have the beer, lots of choice, locally brewed daught, cask and special brews and many imported wheat beers and lagers, all at great prices. Then there’s the food, simple yet tasty, a great choice and although it is standard bar food it’s still great value. Finally there’s the jukebox, crammed full with manchester’s musical greats. So there we have it. Knott bar. Marvellous.
  • food (british)
  • manchester ales – marble
  • real ale
  • imported beers (german wheat beers & belgium lagers)
  • wines (speciality)
  • jukebox with a Mancunian bias

Kro BarKro Bar 325 Oxford Road, Chorlton on Medlock, Manchester, M13 9PG map

  • This is where the Manchester Kro phenomenon all kicked off. Based in a beautiful grade two listed building on Oxford Road directly opposite the Academy and Manchester University it’s a popular pre-gig and student venue.  Don’t be fooled though – it’s not your usual student hangout – Kro Bar has a smart yet comfortable environment with a Danish theme.  Simply put this is just a great hangout with beers imported from all around the world and some classic Danish cooking.

Kro 2 November 16, 2006

Kro 2Kro 2 Oxford House, Oxford Road, Manchester, M1 7ED map

Kro 2 was built upon the success of the original Kro Bar, located a little further down Oxford Road. This Danish influenced bar (‘kro’ being the Danish word for ‘bar’), is one of the most popular in Manchester.  With the BBC Studios being next door and thousands of students making their way past every day, it’s not hard to see why.  Inside this glass building with a glowing green hue you’ll find a wide range of beers from all over the world, wines and spirits. They also have a popular Danish food menu, from light snacks to three course meals.  The heated outdoor area is also very popular.
