QueerQueer Queer, 4 Canal Street, Manchester, M1 3HE map

  • A gay lifestyle bar in the heart of the village, queer is crisp, clean and new, brought to us by the same group as essential.  The menu includes Burgers, king prawns and all day breakfasts and is a real mix of styles although it is very, very reasonably priced and the bar list likewise. During the day it’s a chilled out place but come the evening it all changes and queer becomes a great pre-club venue. The Falcon, a men only bar next door has since closed and become a specific part of Queer itself, renamed ‘The Main Arena’.  Queer is possibly the only bar in manchester that has its very own radio staion in the toilets inviting you to sit back, relax and listen to ‘cottage chat’ as you do the business. Beats reading a paper!
  • Gay bar

In need of a desperate makeover and the bar stinks! CLEAN IT. music good at weekends and good pre-bar to Essential. But still stinks and the staff have attitude which lets it down

Dear Tito, with reference to your comments above I am saddened by your not so nice experience. At Queer we pride ourselves in customer service and in turn won best bar in Manchester 2006. I can assure you that every step is taken to give our customers the best experience in the village.

I went to canal street last night for a friends birthday who is gay we tried to get into Queer and we were met by a surly and very unpleasant female door person who asked us if we had a membership card we said no and she said ” well your not coming in, on your way” she then went on to let a large group of people in after us who did not have membership cards and looked slyly at us while she was letting them in. She was the RUDEST person i have ever encountered and to be honest i was very dissapointed as i though canal street of all places would be accepting of all people but obviously not. It has put me and my friend off EVER going to canal street again.

Im a bit concerned. Im from Ireland and I’m really interested in checking out what Canal Street has to offer considering we only have a few decent gay bars here. Infact I was thinking about going soon. I’m a gay fella and even I’ve been in the same situation. In Belfast they’re far too strick on who they let in. You literally have t skip to the door in a skirt before they’ll think yer gay!! I was turned before because it was ”Members only” when infact I know it was because they thought I was straight! They always say that to people that look str8 or are! You can imagine how frustrating it is for a gay fella to be turned from a gay bar for that reason!! Im just hoping I dont have the same problem in Canal street. Lets just say I wudnt darken the Doors of the Kremlin again!

i have been to queer many times, i have made so many new friends there… the bouncers are friendly, crissy darling is mintas she is so funny and gives such a warm welcome. queer is a good night out playing great music and also offering glam downstairs for the early hours of the morning, a top bar 9/10!!!

  6. princeee Says:

This is the WORST place on Canal St for turning ‘straight’ people away- and that’s saying something. I’ll spend my cash somewhere else ta.

  7. Dave Says:

mmmmm. Think i’ll give this one a miss!

  8. ron Says:

A NICE BAR RUINED BY THE NEANDERTHAL DOOR STAFF WITH BAD ATTITUDE AND SURLY BAR STAFF QUEER IS MORE INTERESTED IN THE HEN PARTYS THAN GAY CLIENTELLE. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND YOU GIVE THIS BAR A MISS AND SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE WERE YOU ARE NOT TREATED WITH CONTEMPT BY THE SAD DOOR STAFF AND SCREAMING QUEENS BEHIND THE BAR.
