The Rising SunThe Rising Sun 22 Queen Street, Manchester, M2 5HX map

Tucked down a back street off Deansgate and wedged inbetween two modern office blocks you’ll find the traditional pub that is The Rising Sun. With an entrance on Queen Street and another on Jackson’s Row, it makes a good stop or shortcut alike. With it’s bright red open-plan interior, it’s a popular pub and another of Manchester’s real ale hidden gems.  There’s live sports and one of the best jukeboxes in town playing classic rock, with Queen, The Beatles, Eagles and Simon & Garfunkel obvious favourites.

  • Real ale
  • Live sports (Sky, BBC, ITV etc)
  • Jukebox (classic rock)

Popped in the Rising Sun on 23rd Jan 2009 and it was great! this place is a very clean and well run pub! 5 cask ales on to!
the staff were great (i think the barmaid was Michelle) The Staff looked very smart in there uniforms (White shirts and red ties) This pub has a welcoming feel to it, a place where you can read the paper in the afternoon! I also saw Cask Marque come and inspect the beer which i must say all passed! this is a little gem! its a must for any cask drinker! i missed the food by 20 mins but im back here in April & i will try and get there for1pm. This pub speaks for itself! (P.s i have never seen cask ale pumps shine like they do here! the pumps are spotless!!)

    10/10

Yes i agree with the last person! This pub is a clean and well run pub! I had a pint of sunchaser and it was exellent! I’ve been coming in here now for 7 years and NOT once have I had a bad oint of cask! The staff do look well in there uniform & ties. If you look at the pumps they are always very clean and well presented. The Rising Sun is up there with all the best pubs in Manchester City centre! I always have a chat to the Manager (Barrie) Who is very good at what he does. He talks to his customers & always tells his customers all the information on all the beers that he serves.
Nice place it’s a must for anyone!

    Joe

  5. Paul Says:

Great Food! The menu is fantastic here! I had a 12oz Beef Burger (100% Aberdeen Angus) it was HUGE.
I like this place its very clean and I love all the cask ales they do.
I had a pint of the Crop Circle and it was very tasty.
The cask ale is very good here, one of the best kept ales in Manchester I would say.
The lager selection is also great here with 5 lager on tap and with a good selection of bottled lagers.

I would put this pub on par with Sams chop House & Thomas’s chop House for food and its a lot cheeper than they are.

What more can I say?? If your in Manchester make sure you pop in for a bite to eat…… it is worth it!

I don’t usually leave ‘reports’ on places i visit, but i think the Rising Sun might pay attention to it’s loo’s please–they were very dirty, with no paper. We were also pestered by a pair of drunken ‘yobs’, who the staff seemed to find ok to continue serving–so we left. Pitty,as John and i like to visit back street pubs , rather than the big, noisy bars.

Im a regular in the rising sun and in sure that if you would of told the staff about the toilets then they would of done something!
Again if you were getting harassed then you should of told a member of staff, as i know from many years of drinking in this pub, the manager and landlord to not tolerate this. I presume that you visited the rising sun on a very busy weekend!

  7. Ian Says:

love the rising sun, not tried the food yet but the beers good & the landlord looks like your typical manc landlord, happily chatting to anyone (where have they all gone) top atmoshere & the music playing is always good. Keep up the good work great little pub.

  8. Harry Says:

Good ale festival last week with the Lancaster Brewery present.
Always a good pint in here. It’s a bit pricey but I suppose that keeps the lower end of the market out, as it was full of business men & women.
I don’t mind paying a high price when the beer is spot on and I must say the beer was at The Rising Sun.
The potato hash was good to, The Rising Sun gave this out free of charge for the brewery night.
This pub brings back memories of my old local back in the 60’s & 70’s by the way its run, and from my point of view this place is well run.
Very clean, traditional but modern….. and that’s what you need in a city centre these days.
I am a north Manchester Camra member and I wish this pub was in our area for the bar crawls we do.

    Exceptional pub.

  9. John Williams Says:

Called into the Rising Sun for the derby match on Wednesday, very busy with no idiots. Very welcoming and the atmosphere was great with city fans and united fans in the same pub having a laugh after the match.(That was very nice to see as you don’t get that in many pubs these days)
When leaving the pub I noticed a poster advertising a Timothy Taylor ale festival with meet the brewer. With nothing planned I popped down again the following night and the night was fantastic. The Landlord gave out different kinds of cheeses, with a free raffle too. All the beers were perfect, and it was nice to see all the Timothy Taylor range on to as you don’t see many of the other beers.I was the last person who left that night, and didn’t want to go home. The pub was packed out for the ale festival, a very busy pub.this place is a real jem and not many places like this any more. The landlord said that he is planning the next ale festival for January/February next year. you will see me then!
    Great pub!

  10. Stephen Morris (RBS) Says:

Absolute belting pub. Always very busy with the Camra branch present a lot of the time. Packed to the rafters on Monday night. with a nice atmosphere. Certificates for excellent ales and camra awards cover the bar with 5 handpulls on offer, with a traditional cider on hand pump. Tried a couple of the ales and they were on top form as always. Changing selection of ales with a Moorhouses, Timothy Taylor and a Lancaster beer as a permanent. We always have a laugh with Baz and Gaz the 2 boss’s! top landlords!

    I love this place.

  11. sally moore Says:

Tried to visit the rising sun today to grab some lunch after watching the F1 car but got asked to leave as soon as we sat down!!……. because my husband and I had our very well behaved 2 year old daughter with us…. It would be helpful if this rule was clearly displayed at the door. We had to inform the next family that tried to go in….

  12. The Landlord Says:

No children allowed, thats the rule. well behaved or not!

  13. Mr & Mrs Brammer Says:

This is a very good pub for real ale. Me and my wife called in here while the christmas markets were on and it was packed. They had 5 ales on ranging for pale ales to dark winter warmers which is nice to see. Real cider on tap here to. Nice frendley staff, and i must say that there is a barman here who speaks about 10 diffrent languages as he was talking to all the tourists in there lingo! this place makes everyone feel welcome.

  14. The Jackson crew Says:

This pub has just under gone a major refurbishment, and looks excellent! I love the bottle cabinet with all the diffrent beers in it and they have now 7 hand pulled beers! Less tvs and more traditional. The wall paper and all the decor is amazing!! This pub was packed when I visited on Friday night.

One of the best pubs in the area!

  15. Stevie c Says:

Good little pub this. 7 local cask beers on, with very nice and polite staff. Food very good. The staff told me it was a new menu. Large choice of lagers and bitters. Oh yes and the juke box was fantastic!

  16. Mike Jones Says:
