Walrus, ManchesterWalrus Bar - 57 Hilton Street, Manchester, M1 2EJ map

Walrus is a refreshing addition to the Northern Quarter. This modern, trendy bar offers something new to the city without being pretentious. The talking point is certainly the decor and whether it is to your taste or not, full credit to Walrus for being different with their unique touches. Downstairs can be fun and lively at weekends and the staff’s friendliness, makes a visit to Walrus a positive one.

The WaldorfThe Waldorf - The Waldorf, 12 Gore Street, Manchester, M1 3AQ map

  • Another of Manchester’s traditional pubs, the Waldorf is very popular during the daytime and early evening with the local office workers. There is also a large screen tv showing the football so on match days it gets overcrowded. The interior is all oak pannelled and the range of beers is good. Also available here is a food menu which includes the usual pub meals and bar snacks.

Wave December 14, 2006

waveWave - Britania Hotel, Portland Street, Manchester, M1 3LA map

  • One of The Britannia hotel’s bars, wave is very different to the more popular Bar Rogue.  Perhaps it’s the interior to blame, which is slightly more dated in comparison to its next door neighbour. The food and drinks are cheap in wave and this is often reflected in the clientelle. There is a dj on at the weekends and the tunes can be anything from cheesy pop and rock to dance and r’n’b.

WetherspoonsWeatherspoons - 49a Piccadilly, Manchester, M1 2AP map

  • Nestled on the corner of Piccadilly Gardens, wetherspoons isn’t the best example of this chain in manchester, but it is perhaps one of the most frequented. The interior is a little old fashioned and the clientele is varied with shoppers and locals all popping in for a quick pint.  It’s also very popular with Manchester United fans on match days.

The WheatsheafThe Wheatsheaf - Whittle Street, Manchester, M4 1LT map

  • Here we have a traditional style pub hidden in the back streets of Manchester’s famous northern quarter. If you want to get away from all the designer clad students that haunt the area, then this is a good bet. The bar itself is nothing remarkable but it does offer cask ales and has a pool table, the bar staff are friendly as well and will endevour to make your visit there a good one.

Dating back to 1550, The Old Wellington pub is a Grade Two listed building which is reputed to be one of Manchester’s oldest buildings.
