The Athenaeum - 1 York Street, Manchester, M1 7DE map
- A real party bar, Athenaeum has had its ups and downs over the years however has been ever present whilst the more exclusive bars and restaurants that surround it have come and gone. Located at the top of King Street, on the corner of Spring Gardens and York Street, it’s only a stone’s throw from the shops on both Market Street and King Street, whilst also being close to the Town Hall and China Town. It’s a large hall of a venue boasting marble statues and columns with an impressive looking bar. The clientele can be a real mix, from hen nights to office parties and the drinks flow quickly with a number of promotions also available. Food is also available.

A very impressive building, amazing looking inside, but apart from that Athenaeum really just comes over as being a Wetherspoons. I went in last week and it was dead, as it seems were most of the people in there.
Great building, not so sure about the bar!
strange???
Really lovely inside, very impressive, we really liked it.
They must sort out the pee smell coming from the toilets though, it’s very bad!
