Ampersand - Longworth Street, Deansgate, Manchester, M3 4BQ map
- Hidden on Longworth Street, a tiny backstreet just off St John Street, Ampersand is one of Manchester’s most famous clubs. Once an exclusive members only club famed for throwing crazy parties they’ve now opened their doors to the general public. With striking decor and deep rich tones, the clientele are usually of the more fashionable type and music-concious. Also inside is the Cristal Lounge, serving fine champagne (includes some not available elsewhere in Manchester), however entry to the Cristal Lounge is for VIP’s only.

We went to the Launch party for ElectroSexual - a superb club night playing very funky electronic tunes (or ‘dirty electro house’ as they labelled it), with the superb Funk Junkies complimenting Galaxy DJ’s Nick Riley and Andy Durrant on the decks.
As well as the girl sat in a giant Martini glass, there were performers on stilts and waitresses with gigantic feathers and the clientelle were equally as classy.
Drinks are expensive at £4 a pop, especially as you’ve already shelled out £10 to get in (£8 before midnight).
Guest DJ’s lined up for the coming weeks include Bodyrox, Luciana, Hoxton Whores and Deepgroove. We will be certainly be returning!
As with most bars in town though, the toilets let Ampersand down - no locks on the smashed up doors and in need of a splash of paint. Simple things, that if put right would give clubbers the class that the clubnight deserves.
