The Crown & Anchor has had a recent refurb and paint job. The result is a stunning pub that oozies Mancunian pride from every angle.
First of all there’s the large collection of Joseph Holts draft and bottle beers - the ‘Manchester Ale’, a brown ale, is highly recommended and comes in a bottle beautifully decorated with a Lowryesque painting. Like all other Holts ales, a donation is made to Christies for every sale too.
The pub is split into 4 rooms consisting of a restaurant, 2 bars and a raised area with black and white photographs of Manchester decorating the wall. Famous quotes about the city don each one, including one from Charles Dickens stating his love for Joey Holts ale’s.
The video jukebox is crammed with Mancunian gems; New Order’s ‘True Faith’ and Happy Mondays ‘Wrote For Luck’ getting airings during our brief visit.
The MEN Arena is just next door as is Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Marks & Spencer, The Triangle, The Arndale and The Royal Exchange. All in all, it’s the ideal place to enjoy a real Mancunian pint!
